Blackmagic PYXIS 12K is a professional digital cinema camera with a compact and modular design, tailored for all types of productions. The precision CNC-machined aircraft-grade aluminum body is both lightweight and extremely durable. Thanks to multiple 1/4" and 3/8" threaded mounting points and interchangeable side plates, it can be easily customized with accessories such as handles, microphones, SSDs, phones for mobile streaming, brackets, and more. Its compact form factor makes it ideal for mounting on rigs, gimbals, cranes, or drones.
The camera comes in three lens mount versions — L, EF, and PL — making it compatible with a wide range of photographic and cinematic lenses, from Leica full frame to professional cinema glass from Zeiss, ARRI, and Cooke.
At its core is an advanced 12K full frame RGBW sensor (12288 x 8040, 36x24mm) with massive dynamic range and exceptional low-light performance. It allows for open gate 3:2 recording, full-height 6:5 anamorphic shooting without cropping, and Super 35 9K windowed recording, capturing up to 112 fps in 4K or 40 fps in 12K. Its multi-resolution sensor enables shooting in 12K, 8K, or 4K using the full sensor area.
An integrated 4-inch HDR touchscreen provides high-resolution on-set monitoring and playback, while the optional Blackmagic PYXIS Monitor offers a 5-inch 1500-nit HDR touch display with full camera control, multiple mounting points, and clear visibility even in direct sunlight. It’s ideal when the built-in LCD is obstructed by accessories and can double as a director’s monitor or on-set viewfinder.
For handheld or location shooting, PYXIS supports the optional Blackmagic URSA Cine EVF, a high-quality electronic viewfinder featuring a 1920x1080 OLED display, proximity sensor, and precision glass optics with adjustable focus.
Blackmagic PYXIS records in Blackmagic RAW at 12-bit, while also generating H.264 HD proxy files simultaneously. These proxies can be uploaded to Blackmagic Cloud even during recording and accessed immediately by post-production teams. Files can be sent directly to shared folders in DaVinci Resolve, enabling remote editing workflows in real time.
The camera includes dual CFexpress card slots for ultra-fast recording and supports external USB-C drives for extended storage. CFexpress cards are durable and hot-swappable, ensuring continuous and uninterrupted capture.
On the connectivity side, PYXIS includes a 12G-SDI output for clean or overlay monitoring, mini XLR input with 48V phantom power, 10G ethernet, USB-C, and a built-in streaming engine compatible with RTMP and SRT protocols. Live streaming is possible via direct ethernet connection or by tethering a 4G or 5G smartphone for mobile data.
Blackmagic PYXIS 12K EF is a professional-grade digital cinema camera engineered for ultimate rig flexibility and customization. At its core lies a full-frame RGBW sensor (12288 × 8040) with an integrated optical low-pass filter, delivering up to 16 stops of dynamic range. Dual hot-swappable CFexpress slots power robust, uninterrupted recording workflows. Housed in a precision-machined aerospace-grade aluminum body, it features multiple threaded mounting points and side accessory plates. The EF-mount variant comes with a fixed Canon EF mount, providing secure support for both photographic and cinema lenses. Combining true 12K capture performance with a modular design, the PYXIS 12K EF adapts seamlessly to setups from stabilized handheld rigs to dollies, always producing stunning, cinematic imagery.
