The Samyang 16mm T2.2 VDSLR ED AS UMC CS II is a wide-angle manual focus cine lens designed for APS-C sensors (CS), with a bright T2.2 aperture for low-light shooting. The optical design has 13 elements in 11 groups, including one hybrid aspherical, one glass aspherical and one extra-low dispersion (ED) element, for high contrast from the centre to the corners even wide open. Samyang Ultra Multi Coating (UMC) reduces flare and ghosting, and focus goes down to 0.2 m. This version has the Canon EF mount, for Canon EOS DSLR cameras.

Built for film and video work, it has gear rings for follow focus systems on both the focus and the aperture ring (0.8 mm module), and the de-clicked aperture changes exposure quietly and smoothly while recording. T-stop and distance scales are marked on both sides of the barrel, so they can be read by the operator and by the focus puller. The barrel is in high-strength aluminium alloy and a detachable petal-shaped hood is provided. Lenses of the Samyang VDSLR line share the same colour rendering and the same position of the focus and aperture gears, which makes lens changes on a rig quicker.
